Tip : Maximize the moments of inertia for easier control

When you increase the moments of inertia of your rig the nasty penduluming or roll of the horizon won’t go away, it’s primarily determined by drop time. But with more inertia it will be easier for you to control the rig. And if you’re shooting in windy conditions then higher inertia will definitely help (and try cranking up the gimbal friction too in windy conditions).

You don’t necessarily have to add more camera payload weight to increase rig inertia. Try balancing with the gimble low (increase distance between camera and gimbal), or even adding the gimbal extender if you can. Of course it will mean adding additional counterweight. But increases in total rig weight from adding more counterweights may only be 10-15%, while resulting increases in moments of inertia can be more than 50%, which is quite noticeable.
